Coalition of Scientists Urge Rejection of Pacific Northwest LNG Draft Environmental Assessment

The Globe and Mail reports that more than 130 scientists have signed a letter to Canadian Environment Minister Catherine McKenna requesting that she reject a “scientifically flawed” draft environmental assessment for the proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG export terminal near Lelu Island, British Columbia.  According to the article, the draft assessment found that the LNG export terminal could be constructed without causing major ecological damage to the nearby Flora Bank, which contains juvenile salmon habitat.  The scientists allege in their letter that the draft assessment “did not adequately...

Petronas Releases Statement on Pacific NorthWest LNG Export Project

Malaysian state oil company Petronas, primary sponsor of the proposed Pacific NorthWest LNG export terminal in British Columbia, issued a press release stating that it “is proactively taking steps to mature the project towards its Final Investment Decision” and, once a federal environmental assessment report is completed, it will review the report’s findings and the LNG market outlook and present an investment decision to its shareholders....

Report: Planned U.S. LNG Export Terminals Face Market Uncertainty

The U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration, has released a brief overview of the status of U.S. LNG export terminals.  The report notes that “[m]arket conditions have changed since many LNG export projects in the United States were initially proposed[,]” and planned terminals “face not only increased competition from other domestic and foreign terminals that have been completed, but they also face uncertainty in global LNG demand.”    ...

Venture Global Plaquemines LNG Files Application to Export to FTA and Non-FTA Nations

Venture Global Plaquemines LNG, LLC (VGPL) has filed an application with the United States Department of Energy to export up to 1,240 Bcf/year of LNG over a 25-year period from its proposed liquefaction and LNG export terminal on the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, La.  VGPL requests authorization to export the LNG to nations with and without a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States.  The formal application with FERC for the proposed LNG export terminal is currently expected to be filed later this year, with possible commercial operations to begin in 2020.    ...

Crowley LNG Files for Canadian Export License

Crowley LNG, Inc. has filed an application with the Canadian National Energy Board to export up to 10 Bcf/year of LNG over 25 years to the United States and its territories.  The LNG to be exported will be produced at the Tilbury LNG Plant in Delta, British Columbia and/or the Mount Hayes LNG Plant on Vancouver Island, both owned by FortisBC Energy Inc.  LNG for export may also be sourced from the Elmworth LNG Plant in Elmworth, Alberta, which is owned by Ferus Natural Gas Fuels, Inc.  The LNG may be exported via vessel or containers loaded onto trucks or barges.  ...

Tokyo Gas Signs HOA for Cameron LNG Supplies

Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. announced that it has signed a heads of agreement (HOA) with Mitsubishi Corporation subsidiary Diamond Gas International Pte. Ltd. for the sale and purchase of 200,000 tons/year of LNG over 20 years from the Cameron LNG export terminal under construction at Hackberry, La.  The price for the LNG will be linked to the U.S. Henry Hub natural gas price.    ...

Downeast LNG Requests FERC Continue to Hold Application in Abeyance

Downeast LNG has filed a letter requesting that FERC continue to hold processing of its application to construct an LNG export terminal in Robbinston, Maine, in abeyance until June 1, 2016.  Downeast LNG requested the continuation because “discussions with existing and potential investors in the project are still ongoing.”
