Imperial Oil Nowhere Near Decision on B.C. LNG Export Terminal
Reuters reports that Imperial Oil CEO, Rich Kruger, recently indicated that his company is still in the groundwork stages of putting together a proposed LNG export terminal project in British Columbia (B.C.), and even though Imperial and ExxonMobil Canada’s joint venture, WCC LNG, has received an LNG export license, he could not say whether the project will proceed. The Canadian government approved a license for WCC to export up to 30 million tonnes of LNG (1,461 Bcf) per year over 25 years from a proposed LNG export terminal to be located in the vicinity of either Kitimat or Prince Rupert, B.C. According to WCC’s license application, the project could consist of up to six liquefaction trains, with commissioning of the initial trains and the first export of LNG anticipated to occur between 2021 and 2023.
