Gazprom has No Plans to Enter U.S. Market Until Final Decision is Reached on Shtockman Investment

Alexander Medvedev, deputy CEO of Gazprom, told reporters yesterday that his company will not fully determine whether to enter the U.S. LNG market until after a final investment decision is reached regarding the Shtockman field. Platts LNG Daily [subscription required] also noted that Gazprom is concerned that bids to obtain American assets in the oil and gas industry may prompt a political backlash, such as when CNOOC was prevented from acquiring Unocal.
