Environmental Groups Predict Opposition to New WestPac LNG Proposal

Following yesterday’s announcement by WestPac LNG Corp. of its intention to develop an LNG import terminal and power plant on Texada Island, British Columbia, some environmental groups are predicting stiff opposition to the project, the Financial Post (Canada) reports. Karen Campbell, staff counsel for the Pembina Institute, said, “The Sunshine Coast and all of the Gulf Islands still have appeal for their ecological value. To jeopardize that with the threat of tankers is not something that folks in B.C. are going to accept very easily, if at all.”
