U.S. Coast Guard Clarifies Use of Armed Escorts

In response to a comment by New Brunswick legislator Wayne Steeves, a U.S. Coast Guard official clarified for The Telegraph Journal that armed gunboats do not necessarily accompany LNG vessels en route to U.S. LNG import facilities. Instead, security measures are dependent on the risk assessment conducted by federal officials. The Coast Guard has not yet filed security plans for the terminals proposed for Maine.
