Coast Guard Issues Broadwater LNG Waterway Suitability Report

On Friday, Sept. 22, the U.S. Coast Guard released its security analysis for the Broadwater LNG project proposed for Long Island Sound, concluding that the Coast Guard currently has insufficient resources to coordinate security measures necessary to “responsibly manage risks to navigation safety and security risks” associated with the facility.  However, the Waterway Suitability Report also said that the facility’s remote location away from population centers provides a “significant safety and security benefit.”  The Coast Guard’s press release is here.  Newsday and an Associated Press article carried via The Courant provide further press coverage.
