Virginia Senate Approves Energy Plan With LNG Provisions

On a vote of 31-6, the Virginia Senate approved legislation yesterday that would create a ten-year comprehensive energy plan.  The legislation, sponsored by Senator Frank Wagner (R), directs state agencies to prepare the plan by July 12, 2007.  Included in the bill is a requirement that the State Corporation Commission (SCC) identify and evaluate potential sites for LNG facilities.  The SCC would employ a newly established scoring system to determine optimal sites for the siting of such facilities.  One notable scoring criteria, not included in the legislation as originally introduced, considers the site’s compatibility with local land use plans.
