Tribe Need Not Release LNG Documents

A Maine court ruled last week that Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Reservation does not need to release information about its LNG discussions, because in negotiating a land lease with Quoddy Bay LNG the Reservation acted as a business corporation rather than as a municipality.  Two newspapers had sued the Reservation under the Maine Freedom of Access Act, seeking lease agreements and other documents regarding the tribe’s controversial decision to allow an LNG terminal on the reservation.  One of those two newspapers, the Bangor Daily News, carries the story.
