The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, announced that the proposed Woodfibre LNG export terminal (Woodfibre), located near Squamish, British Columbia, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. The Environmental Assessment Decision Statement on the project establishes legally binding conditions, including mitigation measures and follow-up requirements which Woodfibre must comply with over the life of the project. Today, the U.S. Department of Energy issued a Final Opinion and Order authorizing Cameron LNG to export an additional 152 Bcf/year of LNG over 20 years from its export terminal under construction in Cameron Parish, La. to nations without a Free Trade Agreement (non-FTA) with the United States. Cameron LNG is now authorized to export a total of 772 Bcf (14.95 million metric tons)/year of LNG to non-FTA nations from Liquefaction Trains 1, 2, and 3 at its Cameron Terminal....

CBC News reports that Repsol has put on hold its proposal to convert the Canaport LNG import terminal in New Brunswick, Canada into an export terminal. The company attributed the decision to its inability to find outside investors and current market conditions, which make the conversion uneconomical.

Veresen Inc., sponsor of the proposed Jordan Cove Energy Project LNG export terminal at Coos Bay, Ore, released a statement in response to FERC’s order issued Friday, which rejected the application to construct the terminal and interconnected pipeline. Dan Althoff, President and CEO of Veresen, said “Clearly, we are extremely surprised and disappointed by the FERC decision … FERC appears to be concerned that we have not yet demonstrated sufficient commercial support for the projects. Today, FERC issued an order denying Jordan Cove Energy Project’s application to construct an LNG export terminal at Coos Bay, Ore. and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline’s application to construct an interconnected pipeline. Reuters reports that U.S. natural gas production in 2016 is expected to reach a record high of 79.68 Bcf/day according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) March 2016 Short-Term Energy Outlook. The forecast would be the sixth consecutive annual record high for U.S. gas production. Natural gas consumption is projected to increase to 76.79 Bcf/day, which would be the seventh consecutive annual record high.
