The Globe and Mail reports that Royal Dutch Shell PLC has “officially shelved” its plans to build the Prince Rupert LNG export project at Ridley Island, British Columbia (BC). The article reports that Shell will continue advancing the proposed LNG Canada export terminal at Kitimat, BC. LNG Canada is a joint venture comprised of Shell Canada, PetroChina Co. Ltd., Korea Gas Corp. and Mitsubishi Corp. A final investment decision has not been made for the LNG Canada project, but is expected in “a few quarters.” ...

The U.S. Department of Energy has issued an order authorizing Driftwood LNG LLC to export domestically produced LNG by vessel from the proposed Driftwood LNG Facility located in Calcasieu Parish, La. to nations with a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States. The volume authorized for export is equivalent to approximately 1,496.5 Bcf/year of natural gas for a 30-year term....

Kinder Morgan, Inc. announced that investment funds managed by EIG Global Energy Partners have become a 49% joint venture participant in Elba Liquefaction Company, L.L.C., which will own 10 liquefaction units and other ancillary equipment to be constructed for the proposed Elba Liquefaction Project at Kinder Morgan’s existing Elba Island LNG terminal near Savannah, Ga.

Venture Global Plaquemines LNG, LLC and Venture Global Gator Express, LLC announced that they have completed the preliminary review process and filed a formal application with FERC for authorization to site, construct and operate the Plaquemines LNG export terminal and interconnected Gator Express pipeline system. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released data showing U.S. LNG import and export activity through December 2016. The report shows that during December, 15 cargoes of domestically produced LNG were exported via vessel from the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Cameron Parish, La.: four cargoes to South Korea, three cargoes each to Mexico, China and Japan, and one cargo each to Egypt and Turkey. Dominion Cove Point LNG filed a report with FERC covering construction activities at its LNG export terminal in Lusby, Md. through January 2017. The report states that construction of the LNG export terminal facilities is 74.4% complete.

FERC has issued a letter approving use of pre-filing environmental review procedures for Jordan Cove Energy Project’s proposed LNG export terminal at Coos Bay, Ore. and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline’s proposed 233-mile long, 36-inch diameter, interconnected pipeline. In March 2016, FERC denied Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline’s application to construct the interconnected pipeline, and consequently the proposed LNG terminal application, because of the lack of market support. Jordan Cove and Pacific Connector stated that they intend to file their formal applications on or about August 30, 2017....
