Legislative Committee Passes Bill Banning LNG Terminals in Long Island Sound
Legislation intended to ban LNG terminals in Long Island Sound was approved yesterday by a Suffolk County legislative committee despite criticism from a lawmaker who called the bill “flaky” and said it would “invit[e] lawsuits.” Legis. Ricardo Montano, an opponent of the Broadwater project, questioned the effectiveness of the measure given the federal government’s jurisdiction over LNG terminal siting. Broadwater senior vice president John Hritcko, Jr., said proponents of the measure were “continuing to play politics rather than act responsibly in the face of an energy crisis.” Newsday has the story.
