FERC Approves Freeport LNG Train 4 Expansion

FERC has issued an order authorizing construction and operation of liquefaction Train 4 at Freeport LNG’s existing import terminal near the city of Freeport, in Brazoria County, Texas. Train 4 will be able to produce an additional 5.1 million metric tons per annum of LNG (approximately 0.74 Bcf/day) for export. FERC Commissioner Richard Glick issued a dissenting statement criticizing the majority’s decision to approve the project while refusing to assess the significance of the impact of the project’s greenhouse gas emissions on the environment and neglecting the Commission’s duty to explore possible mitigation measures to reduce any significant adverse effects.
