Senate Passes Energy Bill with Provisions to Expedite LNG Exports

Reuters reports that today the U.S. Senate passed S.2012, the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2015, the “first broad energy bill in nine years” which, among other things, “requires the Department of Energy [DOE] to issue a decision on LNG projects within 45 days of an environmental assessment,” compared to an energy bill recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives “which directs the DOE to make the decision on permits after 30 days.” Differences between the two bills will be worked out in Conference Committee.
