Alaska Legislature Approves State Buyout of TransCanada’s Share of the Alaska LNG Project

The Alaska Journal of Commerce reports that the Alaska legislature has approved the state’s buyout of TransCanada’s share of the proposed Alaska LNG Project (AKLNG), consisting of an 800 mile pipeline to access North Slope gas supplies and a liquefaction and LNG export terminal at Nikiski.  Currently, TransCanada owns 25% of the gas treatment plant and 25% of the pipeline portion of AKLNG.  The State of Alaska, through Alaska Gasline Development Corporation (AGDC), currently owns 25% of the liquefaction plant.  Upon termination of the TransCanada relationship, AGDC will own 25% of the entire Project.  North Slope producers BP, ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil are the other sponsors of the project.
