Canadian National Energy Board Considering 40-Year Gas Export Licenses

The Canadian National Energy Board (NEB) is seeking comments on proposed amendments to its regulations to create a new category of licenses that would permit the export of natural gas for a term not exceeding 40 years.  The amendments would also amend the definition of “natural gas” to include reference to 85% methane, and include new regulations listing the license application filing requirements and the license terms and conditions that the NEB may impose.  The proposed amendments would not affect existing regulations governing gas export licenses for a term not exceeding 2 years or for a term not exceeding 25 years.  Comments on the proposed regulations are due by July 28, 2015.
