Study Suggests Risk of Earthquake and Tsunami at Proposed Jordan Cove LNG Terminal

The Oregonian reports on the risks that a large earthquake and resulting tsunami would pose to the proposed Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas terminal in Coos Bay.  An Oregon State University study indicates there is a 40 percent chance of a mega-thrust earthquake and subsequent tsunami occurring in the region within the next 50 years.  FERC’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the facility, which will assess the facility’s risks and mitigation plans, is due this summer.
