Senators Submit Proposal for New LNG and CNG Retail Units

Politico reports that U.S. Senator John Thune, the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, and more than twenty senators have delivered a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, recommending a proposal by the National Conference on Weights and Measures that would permit retailers to sell LNG and CNG in diesel gallon equivalent units.  Senator Thune and others argue that the proposal would be better for consumers and manufacturers because of the competition between diesel and gas.  However, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, opposes the proposal, arguing that LNG and CNG should be sold in kilograms.
