Report: Chinese Seem Reluctant to Rely on U.S. LNG Supplies

A new report from the National Bureau of Asian Research titled, “Asia’s Uncertain LNG Future: Conclusions and Implications for the United States and Asia,” finds that while China is expected to increase imports of LNG dramatically over the next decade, and Chinese national oil companies are investing heavily in Asian, Canadian, and other LNG projects around the world, Chinese buyers seem reluctant to rely on U.S. LNG supplies due to concerns about U.S. domestic opposition to Chinese energy investments and fears that the United States might try to use LNG exports as diplomatic leverage.
