Ottawa Declines to Classify LNG Export Facilities as Manufacturing and Processing

The Financial Post reports that Canada’s Budget 2013 does not include a classification of LNG export facilities as manufacturing and processing for tax purposes, as advocated by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). CAPP had pushed for the designation to accelerate depreciation on Canadian LNG export facilities which, according to CAPP, are at a disadvantage to those in the United States and Australia. An Op-Ed in the Financial Post further discusses the issue.
