FERC Denies Rehearing and Stay of Sabine Pass LNG Export Order

Yesterday, FERC issued an order denying Sierra Club’s request for rehearing and stay of FERC’s order authorizing Sabine Pass LNG to construct LNG export facilities at its existing Sabine Pass LNG terminal located in Cameron Parish, La. FERC rejected Sierra Club’s arguments that FERC failed to adequately analyze the effects of induced shale gas production that would result from the project, ruling that any such effects were speculative, not reasonably foreseeable, and attenuated from Sabine Pass LNG’s proposal. FERC’s order can be found on eLibrary under Docket No. CP11-72.
