Energy Consultant Argues for LNG Liquefaction Facility on Alaska’s North Slope

Energy consultant Pedro Van Meurs told the Alaska Dispatch that he believes an LNG liquefaction and export facility on Alaska’s North Slope could allow Alaskan natural gas to compete with other sources of LNG for market share in Asia. Van Meurs said that he does not believe that proposals to transport North Slope gas via pipeline to an LNG liquefaction facility in southern Alaska is economic when compared to other LNG supply options around the world. However, the Dispatch notes that other industry players in Alaska disagree with Van Meurs’s contention and support the pipeline and liquefaction proposal.
