Alaskan Lt. Gov. Says Nuclear Outage in Japan May Increase Demand for Alaskan LNG

Alaskan Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell (R) told Reuters last Friday that outages at Japanese nuclear power plants could cause an increase in demand for Alaskan oil and LNG exports. As of last Friday, ConocoPhillips reiterated its previous position that it would assist Japan with the country’s LNG needs in the short term, but that the company still plans to suspend operations at its Kenai LNG liquefaction facility in April or May of this year.
