R.I. Legislators Celebrate Passage of Law Limiting Size of Vessels Passing Under Bridges

A number of Rhode Island lawmakers gathered yesterday to recognize the passage of a law that requires 30 feet of clearance between the underside of a bridge and the top of a marine vessel transporting certain kinds of cargo. The sponsor of the bill, State Rep. Douglas W. Gablinske, said that the law will prevent LNG vessels from reaching the planned site for the Weaver’s Cove LNG offloading facility planned for Mt. Hope Bay and acknowledged that the law may be challenged in court. Find further details in the Providence Journal.
