Canadian Prime Minister Reiterates Opposition to LNG Vessel Traffic in Canadian Waters of Head Harbour Passage

According to the Telegraph-Journal (New Brunswick, Canada), Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper reiterated his government’s opposition to LNG vessel traffic in the Canadian waters of Head Harbour Passage on a recent visit to Washington, DC, including to U.S. Senator Susan Collins (R-ME). Also speaking to the issue, Greg Thompson, a Member of Parliament from New Brunswick and a member of the Prime Minister’s Cabinet, emphasized to the Telegraph-Journal that the vessel transit issue is one of national sovereignty for the Canadian federal government and it will not cede its sovereignty over vessel transit through Canadian waters to the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
