LNG Vessel Loses Propulsion for Several Hours 16 Miles Off the Mass. Coast

The LNG vessel Suez Matthew, en route from Trinidad & Tobago to the Everett LNG terminal in Massachusetts, lost propulsion when both its boilers deactivated for several hours just after midnight on Sunday, December 28. The Boston Globe reports that one boiler was restarted at 3:30 a.m. and the other boiler at 5:30 a.m. According to U.S. Coast Guard personnel, the tanker did not present a public safety risk and the vessel will be inspected by the Coast Guard before it delivers its cargo to the Everett LNG import facility.
