Weaver’s Cove LNG Proposes Unloading LNG Vessels Offshore

Yesterday Weaver’s Cove Energy CEO Gary Shearer announced a proposed adjustment to its LNG import project. According to the Fall River Herald News (Mass.), the company is now proposing to unload LNG vessels one mile offshore and transport LNG via pipeline to onshore  regasification facilities. Shearer said that the offshore unloading would obviate the need for smaller LNG tankers to transit beneath the Brightman Street Bridge. Several elected officials from Massachusetts and Rhode Island expressed skepticism that potential safety and security risks would be mitigated by the proposal.
