GasTech: Shell Announces Design for Floating LNG Production Unit

Jon Chadwick of Shell Gas & Power told the GasTech 2008 conference that the company has developed a design for a floating LNG production unit, known as FLNG. Chadwick said that after extensive engineering studies and testing, Shell has uncovered “no technical showstoppers for the concept.” He did not provide details on costs or a time frame for deployment, but did say the he expects an international tender to be issued within the next four months to begin work on the project.
