Local Officials Present LNG Safety Questions to Visiting Engineer
Officials in Astoria, Ore., presented numerous safety concerns to University of Arkansas engineer Jerry Havens last week. Havens, in Oregon to testify before a local FERC hearing regarding safety issues of the Bradwood Landing LNG proposal, spoke with several city councilors and local emergency response personnel and noted that LNG spills are “highly unlikely.” The Daily Astorian provides additional details.
Separately, the Daily Astorian also reports that Havens testified that the exclusion zones around the proposed terminal ought to be larger than initially calculated by FERC in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Several proponents of the LNG proposal disagreed, with one calling Havens the “hired gun” of anti-LNG groups.
