Southern California Wary of LNG from Energia Costa Azul

San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Sempra is facing renewed objections to its plan to import LNG with different hydrocarbon compositions than historical California gas supplies to its Energia Costa Azul LNG terminal in Mexico. In particular, the concern centers around the fact that imported LNG may contain higher percentages of ethane, propane and butane than domestic natural gas and thus could produce higher levels of nitrous oxide when burned. Sempra has stated that “the impact on emissions will be extremely low.”
