Decision on Keltic Facility Expected Today

The Nova Scotia Environmental Assessment Board is expected to issue a decision today regarding Keltic Petrochemicals’ proposed LNG and petrochemical facility in Guysborough County. The panel had intended to make its recommendation to the provincial environmental minister on Dec. 20, 2006, but the deadline was extended to allow the members additional time to review submitted materials. The facility is scheduled to start operations in 2010. The Chronicle Herald provides further details regarding the project and local reaction to the impending decision.

[Clarification: While the board’s recommended decision was expected to be released to the Nova Scotia environmental minister on Feb. 21, that report will not be made public until the environmental minister reviews it and issues his decision.]
