Prince George’s County Council Rejects WGL’s Appeal

Citing public safety concerns and commercial development plans, the Prince George’s County Council rejected Washington Gas Light’s appeal of a decision by the county’s Zoning Hearing Examiner to deny the utility’s request for a special exception permit to convert the Chillum Natural Gas Facility into an LNG processing and storage facility.  WGL’s attorney suggested that the Council may lack jurisdiction, as, under state law, zoning officials may not regulate public utility use.
