CPUC, Others Question Need for West Coast Terminal in Addition to Costa Azul
Sempra Energy’s Energia Costa Azul LNG terminal in Baja California, Mexico is poised to start production in 2008, prompting some industry stakeholders to question the need for other LNG terminals proposed for the U.S. West Coast. The Los Angeles Times reports that CPUC attorney Harvey Morris believes the Costa Azul project “might obviate the need for others or might mean only one more is needed on the West Coast.” Sound Energy Solutions President Tom Giles disagrees, and says his company will continue its plans to construct a terminal in Long Beach, Calif.
