Weaver’s Cove Opponents to Challenge Lack of DOT Standards in Court

In another attempt to derail the Weaver’s Cove LNG project, Massachusetts and Rhode Island state and local officials have asked the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals to order the U.S. Department of Transportation to adopt guidelines regarding where LNG facilities can be built. The petition by the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Attorneys General and the mayor of Fall River, Mass. asserts that the DOT neglected to implement safety standards mandated by the Pipeline Safety Act of 1979, according to a spokesperson for Rhode Island’s Attorney General.
