KeySpan president of gas delivery Nick Stavropoulos told the Lynn City Council last night that alarms and surveillance equipment failed to detect an August intrusion at the LNG storage facility; instead, evidence of the breach was discovered by an employee five days after it occurred. After the breach was discovered, he said, a 24-hour police presence was added at the Lynn, Mass., facility and other facilities were put on alert. A federal security visit and state review are both expected later this month. However, councilors at the meeting said they were unhappy with the present security measures and concerned that repeat incidents would occur. The Daily Item has the detailed story.
