World Gas Intelligence reports that the U.S. imported approximately 2 Bcf/d of LNG in the second quarter of 2006. The Lake Charles LNG terminal received large import volumes, averaging 650 MMcf/day, after receiving only 101 MMcf/day in the first quarter. By contrast, the Cove Point terminal experienced a slight decrease in imports due to the expiration of supply contracts last December. Egypt emerged as the second leading supplier of LNG to the U.S., eclipsed only by Trinidad and Tobago. Most of the Egyptian supply is controlled by BG, which brought significant volumes to the Lake Charles and Elba Island facilities. [Subscription Required]
