Debate Continues Over LNG Tanks on Outer Brewster Island

Environmentalists have expressed concern that AES’ plan to construct two LNG storage tanks on Outer Brewster Island may harm the area’s wildlife and the fishing industry. However, W-CVB, the local ABC affiliate for Boston, reports that the site is laden with garbage and not open to the public. AES consultant Jamie Fay argues that the proposed location for the tanks is removed from the natural wildlife habitats on the island. He also noted that lease payments from the facility would be approximately $10 million dollars per year and “could provide 100 percent of the funding for the Boston Island system basically forever.”
