Gov. Ehrlich Reiterates Opposition to Sparrows Point

At a community meeting held yesterday in Dundalk, Md., Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. voiced opposition to AES’ Sparrows Point LNG proposal, but expressed disappointment with opponents’ allegations that his personal attorney may have engaged in ethical misconduct. Local critics of the project have called for an investigation into the activities of David Hamilton, who they say violated state ethics laws because of his firm’s ties to AES andBarletta-Willis, the owner of the shipyard where AES plans to build the terminal. State Democratic leaders have also expressed doubt over Ehrlich’s opposition to the plan because the state has provided Barletta-Willis a $150,000 grant to finance dredging activities at the site.
