Environmental Concerns Raised at Gulf LNG Hearing

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources yesterday held a public hearing on Gulf LNG’s plan to build a regasification terminal in Jackson County. Today’s Sun Herald reports that attendees expressed concerns regarding the proposed disposal of dredge materials. Tim Broussard, a county official for the district where the terminal would be located, opposes the company’s plans to dispose the dredge material offshore. “Dumping that dredge gives no benefit,” Broussard said, suggesting that the dredge material be used instead to reconstruct wetlands to safeguard against storms.
