Editorial: Blocking LNG Development May Harm Northeast

An editorial in The Republican expresses approval for the Massachusetts State Senate’s recent attempt to revive AES’ Battery Rock LNG project proposed for Outer Brewster Island. The paper also criticizes the efforts by area legislators to halt the project, arguing that curbing LNG development may adversely impact the availability of energy supplies in the Northeast. The editorial calls for greater federal and regional — as opposed to local — control over the LNG terminal siting process in order to ensure that LNG infrastructure is developed to serve growing regional energy needs.
