Platts 5th Annual LNG Conference

The United States can expect to see six to ten new LNG regasification terminals by 2012 and subsequent expansions of them all, according to Gabriel Avgerinos of Poten & Partners, speaking at the Platts 5th Annual LNG Conference in Houston. Avgerinos noted that emphasis on clean coal for power generation “may put a cap” on the growth of the gas market in the United States.

Jose Ignacio Sanz Saiz, president of Total LNG USA, discussed Total’s participation in the global LNG market and highlighted Total’s capacity at Sabine Pass. He also commented on the opposition to LNG regasification projects in the U.S., comparing it to what he called PIMBY, or “please in my back yard,” attitudes in his native Spain.
