MARAD Responds to Blanco Veto

According to today’s Baton Rouge Advocate, Acting Deputy Maritime Administrator Julie A. Nelson has said in a letter toLouisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco that her stipulation that the state receive a portion of the revenue generated from the operation of LNG facilities in the Gulf of Mexico”is not permissible under federal law.” Revenue sharing was one of two issues addressed in Blanco’s recent veto of the Main Pass LNG terminal under the Deepwater Ports Act; the other was potential impact to fisheries resulting from an open loop regasification system.
