Maine Ship Pilots to Attend LNG Ship Training in France

The Bangor Daily News today reports that two local ship pilots from Perry, Maine will learn how to maneuver LNG vessels at a one-week training course in France. The specialized training will prepare them to guide tankers en route to the three import terminals proposed for Passamaquoddy Bay. The article highlights that while the Maine DOT and the Department of Environmental Protection are paying for 75% of the costs for the pilots to attend the training, those funds come from the State’s Oil Spill Contingency Fund, which actually is funded directly by the oil companies that import petroleum products into Maine.
