Further Debate on Open-Loop Systems in the Gulf

Some attendees at yesterday’s public hearing on ConocoPhillips’ proposed Beacon Port LNG facility expressed opposition toward open-loop vaporizers, saying they might harm fish populations. “It’s time we consider a different value system, one in which we do not value money more than life,” said Griff Blakewood, an instructor at the University of Louisiana. Some terminal developers plan to mitigate potential environmental damage through design changes, but Aaron Viles, the campaign director for the Gulf Restoration Network, says such actions are “largely symbolic.” Read more in The Daily Advertiser.
