Cove Point LNG Tugs Help Local Firefighting Efforts

Two firefighting tugs that were commissioned by the three LNG importers specifically to serve the Cove Point LNG terminal gave the local volunteer fire department of Solomon’s Island in Calvert County, Md. a significant boost last week when high winds exacerbated a major fire that destroyed two local restaurants. “Big fire requires big water and the tugs provide big water,” Assistant Fire Chief Charles Nava of Solomon’s Volunteer Fire Department said. “The tug operation enabled us to mitigate the further spreading of the fire in a matter of minutes versus the time it would have taken us.” According to Marine Link, the A.J. McAllister and the Emily Anne McAllister feature emergency response equipment that surpasses standards set by the American Bureau of Shipping.
