Hess Consultant Says Use of Smaller LNG Vessels Does Not Affect Safety Risks

The safety risks associated with the use of 55,000 m3 tankers to transport liquefied natural gas to Hess LNG’s proposed terminal are no less than those associated with the 145,000 cubic m3 vessels that were part of the initial plan, according to Blair MacIntyre, a shipping consultant hired by the company. “The size of the event would depend on the size of the hole,” MacIntyre said. “That’s what counts rather than the size of the tank.” Yesterday’s Providence Journal has the story.
