Coastal Conservation Association Opposes Open-Loop Systems

The Florida Sportsman reports that the Coastal Conservation Association has urged the U.S. Department of Transportation to reject applications for open-loop permits for LNG projects proposed by ConocoPhillips and Freeport-McMoRan in the Gulf of Mexico. “We are greatly concerned about the unknown impacts of open-loop systems on the entire marine ecosystem, from plankton to predators,” said CCA National President David Cummins. “These areas have been designated essential habitat for a variety of fish which could suffer a substantial negative impact from an open-loop system.” CCA supports closed-loop systems, which it believes to be more environmentally sensitive.
