Alaska Legislature Approves State Participation in LNG Project

The Alaska Journal of Commerce reports that the Alaska legislature has approved the state’s participation in the Alaska LNG Project, consisting of a proposed 800 mile pipeline to access North Slope gas supplies and a proposed interconnected LNG export terminal at Nikiski.  The state would partner with North Slope producers BP, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and obtain a 25% ownership share of the LNG terminal.  The state would also separately negotiate with TransCanada Corporation to invest in and own the state’s 25% share of the pipeline.  A final investment decision on the project is expected in 2019 and, if approved, the project could begin operations in 2024.
