Environmentalists Skeptical of BHP Billiton’s Cooling System; Lawsuit May Follow
Energy Washington Week reports that opponents of BHP Billiton’s proposed Cabrillo Port LNG terminal may file a Clean Water Act lawsuit if state and federal regulators approve a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System water quality permit for the project. At issue is BHP Billiton’s proposed cooling system, which the company says will comply with California’s temperature and water-intake regulations by using a closed system that reuses cooling water in the regasification process.
