Environmentalists Challenge Legality of Gulf Landing Permit
Environmental organizations and fishing groups will appear in federal court today to challenge federal approval of Shell’s proposed Gulf Landing terminal, which would use an open rack vaporizer system. The groups argue that MARAD violated NEPA and the Deepwater Ports Act by failing to consider the environmental risk posed by the open rack system. “The law is clear, the agency must examine the cumulative impacts to the environment, including fisheries, before issuing a permit,” said Alex Williamson, a Tulane University student lawyer representing the groups. The ruling could impact all LNG terminals proposed for the Gulf Coast. Today’s Greenwire has the story. [Subscription required]
