Dredging Sparrows Point Not Tied to LNG Project

The Army Corps of Engineers dismissed speculation that a dredging permit awarded to the owner of the Sparrows Point Shipyard is for an LNG facility proposed by AES. Barletta Willis Inc. received authorization in May to dredge basin and berthing areas to 30 feet, but the authorized dredging and the LNG terminal project “have nothing to do with one another,” said Joe Da Via, an environmental specialist for the Corps. Sparrows Point project manager Kent Morton said AES is discussing potential dredging to 42 feet with marine regulatory agencies and consultants. The Dundalk Eagle has the story.
